Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The government has intensified efforts to run buses. After a presentation before Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, preparations for setting up a holding company have begun. To run buses, the holding company will be set up at a cost of Rs 100 crore, for which a proposal will be sent to the cabinet.
The Chief Minister will be the chairman of this company, and the Transport Minister its vice chairman. An IAS officer will be its managing director. Other officers will be engaged on deputation to the company or appointed.
The company will run buses. Seven companies, to be set up under this company at divisional-level, will run buses from divisions. Either the commissioner of Nagar Nigams or CEO of the district Panchayats will be the managing directors of these companies. The holding company will also provide permits to the bus operators and monitor their work. After the formation of the holding company, bus routes will be surveyed. The routes will be fixed on the basis of the survey.
At the beginning, the buses will be run from the routes where the number of passengers will be high. Instead of running the buses from rural and urban areas, the buses will be simultaneously run from the urban and rural areas. A meeting will be held with the operators to run bus services, for which preparations are being made. According to sources, preparations are on to start bus services from Ujjain. So, once the company is set up, the Ujjain route will be surveyed at the outset.
