Hobart Hurricanes Big Bash League (BBL) Ending 14 years of title wait, the BBL won its first BBL 2024-25 trophy by defeating Sydney Thunder by 7 wickets in the final on Monday. ‘Fan’ Mitchell Owen played an important role in Hurricanes’ victory, who made the team champion by scoring a brilliant century as an opener.

Thunder scored 182 runs by losing 7 wickets in 20 overs, but Hurricanes, captained by Nathan Ellis, won by scoring 185 runs by losing 3 wickets in 14.1 overs. Owen scored 108 runs in 39 balls with the help of 6 fours and 11 sixes, and scored the joint-fastest century in BBL history. He made a partnership of 109 runs with Caleb Jewell for the first wicket.

An old picture of Owen from 2015 is going viral on social media, in which he is seen cheering for Hobart Hurricanes at the age of 13. Cricket fans are praising his passion. One user wrote, “Owen did wonders. From the stands to the pitch, this moment is special.”

In the final, Sydney Thunder openers Jason Sangha and David Warner made a partnership of 97 runs for the first wicket. Jason scored 67 runs in 42 balls, while Warner scored 47 runs in 35 balls. The Thunder won their only BBL title in the 2015–16 season, while the Hurricanes were runners-up in 2013–14 and 2017–18.
