The hiring environment in the IT sector is gradually improving. The demand after the Covid pandemic may not have fully returned yet, but an increase of more than 10% has been recorded in hiring. This information was given by Hitesh Oberoi, MD of Info Edge, the parent company of Naukri.com. He said that the pace of hiring is positive not only in IT but also in other sectors.
Hiring Trends and Job Growth
- According to the Naukri Jobspeak report, 36% year-on-year growth was recorded in AI-related jobs in December 2024.
- Out of 16 sectors, only 3 saw a decline.
- The overall job index showed a growth of 9% on an annual and monthly basis.
- To maintain a good hiring environment, the economy needs to grow at a pace of at least 6%.
Most in demand: AI professionals
- High-quality professionals in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are in high demand.
- AI professionals educated from reputed institutes are being given better salaries than other IT professionals.
- Salary up to Rs 8-10 lakh per year is being offered at the entry level.
- Info Edge has also increased the hiring of AI related professionals and is planning to launch AI based products soon.
Relationship between economy and hiring
- Hitesh Oberoi believes that companies of Gulf countries are hiring from India on a large scale.
- Tech companies and startups are also promoting hiring.
- Info Edge’s billings growth has been in double digits since the September quarter, indicating an improvement in hiring.
- He said hiring in the non-IT sector is also improving, especially for entry-level talent.
Non-IT hiring: increased demand in small cities
- The demand for non-IT talent is increasing in South India and small cities.
- A better environment is being created for entry-level hiring.
- Oberoi said that when the country’s economy grows at a pace of 6-7% and this pace continues for 2-3 years, then there is a shortage of talent.
