Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has demanded immediate legal action against Iltija Mufti for her objectionable remarks against Lord Ram. The right-wing Hindu organisation said that the Mufti family should be ashamed of atrocities against Kashmiri Pandits during Mehbooba Mufti’s tenure.

Recently, Iltija Mufti, the daughter of Jammu and Kashmir’s former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti and a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), posted an objectionable remark on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter). In her post, she stated, “Hindutva is a disease that has afflicted millions of Indians and tarnished the name of God. Lord Ram should be ashamed.”

The post has created a huge uproar throughout the country as people have called out Mufti for her objectionable post. Youth 4 Panun Kashmir (Y4PK), a prominent Kashmiti Pandit organisation, filed a police complaint with Delhi’s Cyber Crime Cell, alleging that the statement is deeply offensive, is aimed at inciting communal discord, and deliberately insults Lord Rama, the Hindu religion and its followers.

Roots in Kashmir (RIK), another prominent Kashmiri Pandit organisation also welcomed the action of Y4PK. Amit Raina, spokesperson of RIK, said that Mufti is a habitual offender and it will provide all possible assistance to Y4PK to ensure that Iltija Mufti is booked for her derogatory and inciting statement.

Goa-based Hindu Janajagruti Samiti, which is operational in Maharashtra, also condemned Mufti’s post and raised questions against her mother Mehbooba Mufti’s tenure as the CM of Jammu and Kashmir. It demanded strict legal action against the “anti-Hindu” Iltija Mufti for insulting Lord Ram.

“During Mehbooba Mufti’s tenure, Kashmiri Hindus including women and children faced atrocities but did Iltija Mufti ever feel ashamed of these events? For years, India’s national flag was brazenly burned in Kashmir’s Lal Chowk. Did the Mufti family ever feel any disgrace then? But now they say, Lord Shri Ram should feel ashamed,” said Ramesh Shinde, HJS’s national spokesperson.

“Had such remarks been made by a Hindu, immediate calls of ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’ (beheading slogans) would have been raised, and prompt action would have been taken. During Mehbooba Mufti’s tenure, B.K. Ganjoo was killed by being locked in a container. Later, his wife was forced to eat blood-soaked rice after watching her child being killed in front of her. But the Mufti family never felt ashamed of such horrific acts,” Shinde added.
