The case of divorce of Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his wife Dhanashree Verma has now reached their final stages. The Bombay High Court on Wednesday ordered the Family Court of Mumbai to take a decision on the matter by 20 March 2025.
Dhanashree Verma had filed a petition in the High Court demanding the six-month cooling-off period to be waived, so that the divorce process could be completed soon.
Also, it has become clear that Chahal will have to pay a living allowance of Rs 4.75 crore to his wife Dhanashree Verma under divorce.
Out of this, Chahal has already paid Rs 2.37 crore and the remaining amount will have to be paid after divorce.
Significantly, it was earlier a rumor that Chahal had given an alimony of Rs 60 crore to Dhanashree, but this lie came out. Dhanashree’s family also rejected the claim.
Why are Chahal and Dhanshree divorced?
Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma have been living separately for the last two and a half years and their divorce case was pending in Mumbai’s Family Court.
According to the Bar and Bench, Justice Madhav Jamdar of Bombay High Court ordered that the Family Court will have to take a verdict soon keeping in mind the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Why was it necessary to remove the cooling-off period?
- Under Section 13 (B) of the Hindu Marriage Act, a 6-month cooling-off period is given in cases of divorce.
- This time is given to husband and wife to give their relationship another chance.
- Dhanashree petitioned to forgive the period, as he and Chahal were already living separately for two and a half years.
- The Supreme Court said in 2017 that if there is no scope to resolve the dispute between the husband and wife, the cooling-off period can be forgiven.
The petition was dismissed by the Family Court of Mumbai on 20 February, causing a shock to Chahal and Dhanashree. But now after the High Court order, the final verdict on divorce will be given on 20 March.
When was the marriage and why divorced?

- Due to the problems in married life, both of them knocked on the family court for divorce.
