Zepto CEO Adit Palicha criticized Piyush Goyal: The startup industry has reacted sharply to a statement by Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal. Piyush Goyal participated in the Startup Mahakumbh held in New Delhi on Thursday (April 3) and said, “Do we want to be happy by becoming a delivery boy or delivery girl?” Comparing this to China’s startup system, he said, “In India we have created delivery apps that deliver the goods to the people very fast.” Startups in India are working on food delivery apps, fancy ice cream, grocery delivery. On the other hand, work is going on on electric vehicles, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, automation and robotics in China. On the other hand, Artificial Intelligence is being done in China and it is also working fast on electric vehicles. Now Goyal’s statement is receiving reactions from the startup world. Jepto’s CEO took favor of Indian startups and said, “We have provided 1.5 lakh jobs and every year we pay Rs 1000 crore to the government as a tax.”

If we take our own example, then we have created 1.5 lakh employment opportunities through Zapto. This work has been done by a company that did not exist 3.5 years ago. Our tax contribution is Rs 1000 crore per year. India has a billions of dollars FDI and continuous investment is being made to strengthen the supply chain. What else is there if it is not the magic of innovation in India?
Why can’t we work on AI model on a large scale?
Adit further said, “Why can’t we work on AI model on a large scale?” The reason for this is that we have not created big internet companies. Most technological progresses have been introduced by consumer internet companies. This is a matter of the last two decades. Today you are seeing who are the big internet companies, Amazon, Alibaba, Facebook, Google and Tensant etc. These companies have mainly have been consumer internet companies. This is happening because consumer internet companies have large amounts of data. Only when we earn millions of dollars in the local market and are constantly successful, only then we will be able to bring major technical changes.
Apart from this, he reminded the government of his responsibility towards the Indian startup ecosystem. Adit said that the support of government and big investors in India would be needed to promote startups. In this way nothing will be achieved by pulling each other’s legs. Zepto will still take a long time to become a major internet company, but there is a lot of potential.
