Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Thousands of passengers without reservation are flocking the Bhopal railway station and New Bhopal’s Rani Kamlapati station to board trains departing to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh or any nearest station.

The desperate attempt to board trains comes amid the Maha Kumbh Mela being held in Prayagraj.

Chaos at Bhopal Railway Station

A chaotic scene was witnessed at Bhopal Railway Station on Monday around 2:50 when hundreds of passengers tried to board the fully packed Kushinagar Express that was on its way from Maharashtra to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Some of them even risked their lives and hung onto the door handle of the moving train. However, only a handful of them could make it inside, given the huge rush.

Over 40 crore people are expected to attend the Maha Kumbh Mela being held in Prayagraj between January 13 and February 26. Railways have announced several Kumbh special trains to accommodate the heavy rush.

In fact, 40 special trains will run from Madhya Pradesh and will pass through 35 stations of the state.

The heavy rush on the railway stations is not only limited to general coaches of the trains. AC and sleeper bogies are also witnessing huge crowds. People were even spotted sitting near the toilets in the desperate attempt to reach Prayagraj.
