As soon as the first week of April began, the heat started showing its true form. The temperature in India is rising rapidly and people are facing a lot of trouble due to this increasing heat. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that this time between April and June, there is a possibility of more heat than normal. The question arises whether this is just a seasonal change or a serious warning of climate change?
Fear of scorching heat and heatwave in North India
This time the heat in North India has already knocked. Temperatures have been recorded between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius in states like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar. The Meteorological Department says that in May and June, heatwaves can run for 10 to 12 days in northwest India and central India. In these days, the temperature can go above 44 degrees Celsius.
In Delhi and surrounding areas, people are carrying umbrellas to avoid sunlight and are always keeping water bottles together. Children and the elderly are being advised to take special vigilance.
Weather in South India is a little relieved, but vigilance is necessary
The situation in South India is slightly different. The temperature in some areas of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh remains between 35 and 38 degrees. However, in Kerala and southern Karnataka, the recent light to moderate rains have given some relief. The IMD has also said that there is a possibility of hailstorm in these areas with strong winds. But this does not mean that the heat is over – the situation can change anytime.
The situation may worsen in May and June
In the beginning of April, when the heat has started scorching people, the situation may become more serious in May and June. The Meteorological Department estimates that this year the temperature can reach 45 to 48 degrees Celsius. Especially in North India, the situation can be more worrisome.
Increasing the number of days of heatwave can affect people’s health. Danger such as headache, dizziness, dehydration and heatstroke will increase much more. There will also be difficulties in school, office and exit works. Therefore, it is very important to adopt the necessary measures in time.
Is all this the result of climate change?
Experts believe that this condition is not only a seasonal fluctuations, but the direct effect of climate change. In the last few decades, humans have highly exploited natural resources. Jungle harvesting, rapidly growing urbanization and emission of greenhouse gases – all of these have made the atmosphere warm.
Gases such as carbon dioxide and methane trap heat in the atmosphere, causing the global temperature to rise continuously. Countries like India, where already hot weather, are most affected by these changes.
Why is summer falling before this time?
Meteorologists say that there are many reasons behind the early start of summer this year. Factors such as changes in weather patterns, El Nino effects and sea surface temperature have started the flow of hot winds before.
Urbanization and increasing structures of concrete are also rapidly increasing the local temperature. The effect of all these is that where the heat used to be at its peak in May-June, now that round is being seen in April itself.
