The Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal dispute was heard in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the court directed the Punjab and Haryana governments to cooperate with the Center in resolving the SYL dispute. The court said- “Cooperate with both the state centers to resolve the dispute”
During the hearing of the case, Justice BR A bench of Justice Gawai and Justice Augustine George Christ was told that it had taken necessary steps to resolve the issue through mutual negotiations. On this, the court said that we instruct both states to find solutions with the cooperation of the central government.
During the hearing, ASG Aishwarya Bhati on behalf of the central government told the court that we have tried for mediation, but now the states will also have to cooperate honestly. Meanwhile, Haryana government lawyer Shyam Dewan said that no solution could be found out of the talks. As far as the construction of the canal is concerned, Haryana has completed all works in its area and not releasing water is a big issue.
