Once Maharishi Angira reached the heaven of Lord Indra. There Lord Indra organized a dance performance by Apsara named Punjikasthala. But the sages had no special interest in the dance of Apsaras. So he drowned himself into meditation. Finally, when he was asked about the dance of Apsaras, he honestly said that he was not interested in watching it. Apsara Punjikasthala became angry after hearing the sage’s words. In turn, the sage Angira cursed the dancer that her next birth on Earth would be as a monkey. Hearing this, Punjikastha started apologizing to the sage. But the sage did not withdraw his curse. Then the dancer went to another sage. The sage blessed Apsara that Lord Vishnu would incarnate in the Satyuga. Thus, Punjikstha in Satyayuga was born as Anjana, the daughter of monkey king Kunjar. After that he was married to Vanararaj Kapiraj Kesari. After this, both of them had a son named Hanuman, who was very powerful and strong. Thus Hanumanji was born as the 11th incarnation of Lord Shiva.
According to the legend, once King Dasaratha divided Kheer from Agnidev to his three queens. When Kaikeyi got kheer, the eagle swooped and snatched it and flew in his mouth. While flying, when the eagle was passing by the ashram of Mata Anjana, Mata Anjana was looking up opening her mouth and since her mouth was open, Kheer fell into her mouth and she swallowed her. Because of this, Hanuman, the incarnation of Lord Shiva, entered his womb and was later born.
