Nashik Video: ‘Handa Morcha’ Held In Trimbakeshwar’s Take Devgaon Over Water Shortage | Sourced
Water shortage is not new to some villages in the tribal-dominated Trimbakeshwar taluka of Nashik district. Since the beginning of February, shortages have started to be felt in Take Devgaon village. To draw attention to this issue, a ‘handa morcha’ was taken out recently.

In Trimbakeshwar taluka, the work of the Jal Jeevan Yojana is underway in some places and stalled in others. In Take Devgaon Gram Panchayat, the work of the Jal Jeevan Yojana has not yet started in Ganeshnagar, Bardachi Wadi, Lonwadi and Dharachi Wadi. Due to this, the citizens of these places are facing shortages. Sometimes, women here have to walk to the river at night to fetch a pot of water. Villagers of Take Devgaon came together to demand that the work of the Jal Jeevan Yojana should be started immediately and water supply should be provided in this area. They protested the administration’s indifference by taking out a ‘hand morcha’ at the gram panchayat office. Seeing the aggressive attitude of the protesters, the officials left the office.
A statement was given to the gram panchayat officials. The work of the Jal Jeevan Yojana should be investigated, and action should be taken against the culprits. Separate water tanks should be built at Bardachi Wadi and Dharachi Wadi. The work done on the water supply scheme by the gram panchayat should be investigated through the 15th Finance Commission and PESA, and water should be obtained from the Take Devgaon Dam for the Jal Jeevan Yojana.
What are their demands?
1. The work of the Jal Jeevan Yojana should be investigated, and action should be taken against those responsible.
2. The existing Jal Jeevan Yojana work is of poor quality, so new work should be initiated.
3. Separate water tanks should be constructed at Bardachi Wadi and Dharachi Wadi.
4. The work done on the water supply scheme through the Gram Panchayat, 15th Finance Commission, and PESA should be investigated, and necessary action should be taken.
5. Water should be supplied from the Take Devgaon Dam for the Jal Jeevan Yojana.
Immediate action should be taken to fulfil the above demands, otherwise, the Elgar Kashtari Sanghatana has warned of intensifying the agitation.
At this time, Taluka President Vasant Irte, Sanjay Pardhi, Hanumant Sarai, Hiraman Gire, Ganpat Gawande, Surekha Madhe, Shankar Bote, Samadhan Sadgir, Tushar Dehade, Subhash Madhe, Rajendra Awate, Somnath Bangare, Shantaram Padir, Yogesh Godse, Bhagwan Bangare, Dattu Bangare, Rishabh Kirve, along with hundreds of men and women, participated.
“People are facing shortages due to the non-completion of the water scheme. Women are experiencing physical and mental hardship. Discussions are underway with the administration in this regard,” said Bhagwan Madhe (Elgar Kashtari Sanghatana).
