A concerning security breach occurred at the revered Khwaja Garib Nawaz Dargah in Ajmer when a young man carrying three swords entered the shrine premises on Tuesday morning, causing panic among visitors.
The incident took place around 11 AM when the man, identified as Alam Ali from Uttar Pradesh, was seen wandering through the shrine complex with the weapons. According to witnesses, he removed his clothes and began brandishing the swords, creating chaos among worshippers.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
In a brave action, a visitor managed to seize the swords from the armed man, sustaining injuries to his hand in the process.
After being alerted, police from the Dargah station arrived at the scene after nearly an hour of commotion. The suspect was detained and taken to JLN Hospital for medical examination.
Dargah Circle Officer Laxman Ram confirmed the incident, stating, “We received information that a young man had removed his clothes and was waving swords inside the shrine. An investigation is underway to determine how he gained entry.”
Syed Sarwar Chishti, Secretary of the Anjuman Committee, criticised police negligence, claiming, “Officers stationed at the gate were distracted by WhatsApp instead of performing their duties.”
The police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the act and assess the security breach that allowed this incident to occur.
The incident raises serious questions about security measures at the shrine, which has ten entrance gates, six of which remain open at all times, with police personnel supposedly maintaining 24-hour vigilance.
