Kal Ho Naa Ho fame Delnaaz Irani has had her own share of ups and downs in her personal life. The actress, who tied the knot with actor Rajeev Paul in 1998, ended her 14-year-long marriage in 2012. Now, Delnaaz has opened up about her past in an exclusive conversation on The Free Press Journal’s chat show Sheroes. The actress got candid and explained what exactly led to their relationship biting the dust.
When asked about dealing with financial lows during her divorce, Delnaaz said, “I was going through a bad phase personally when we (Rajeev Paul and I) were separated. I was going through my divorce and I had a loan on my head which I had to pay off. It was for my house and I had had a big fat loan. So, by the grace of God, I got Bigg Boss and paid it off with the money I earned from the show. I don’t think there was anything major.”
Delnaaz also mentioned that while Bigg Boss taught her a lot, it was also an extremely challenging phase. She said, “I was going through my divorce in July and I got offered the show in September. So within a few months of my divorce and hence, I was very vulnerable. And then I was not alone, if I was alone, I would have been in a better space. My ex-husband (Rajeev Paul) was there 24/7 in front of my eyes, so that was even more difficult.”
When asked how she got out of an emotionally challenging phase after her divorce, Delnaaz said, “I am a very happy person. I don’t take any situation very seriously and even with the downs in life, I think this too shall pass. It’s not like I didn’t have tears or I didn’t cry or I didn’t have my difficult situation but coming out of a particular situation is more important than crying over it. I didn’t want to lead a life where I was miserable or I had to lie to myself.”
For the unversed, Delnaaz and Rajeev separated in 2010, and their divorce came through in 2012. The same year, the duo participated in Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 6, just 2 months after being legally divorced.
