Mumbai: Habitat Announces Temporary Closure After Shiv Sena Workers Vandalise Club In Khar Over Kunal Kamra’s ‘Gaddar’ Jibe | FPJ

Mumbai: After the vandalism that took place on March 23 at the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar over the uproar over comedian Kunal Kamra’s latest standup special ‘Naya Bharat,’ the club has announced that it will be ‘temporarily closed’ until further notice.

In a recent Instagram post the comedy club stated that they are “shocked, worried and extremely broken by the recent acts of vandalism” that has made them a target. Further adding that the artists are the only people responsible for their views and creative choices and the club has never involved itself in the content that the artists perform.

The infamous comedy club announced that it will stay shut by stating “We are shutting down till we figure out the best way to provide a platform for free expression without putting ourselves and our property in jeopardy”

Kunal Kamra’s Jibe At Eknath Shinde

Shiv Sena members on Sunday vandalised and damaged the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar following Kamra’s comments about Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in his recent YouTube video calling the deputy chief Minister ‘Gaddar’ (traitor) and further jibe over the minister and the political party.

On Monday, an FIR was filed against Rahool Kanal, General Secretary of Shiv Sena Yuva Sena (Shinde Faction), and 19 others for reportedly damaging the Habitat standup comedy set in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

As per Sub Inspector Vijay from Khar police station, during a live performance by standup comedian Rajat Sood, the Shinde Sena’s youth group arrived at the venue, compelled the cessation of the show, and damaged the set.

An FIR has been lodged under Sections 132, 189(2), 189(3), 190, 191(2), 324(5), 324(6), 223, 351(2), 352, 333, 37(1), and 135 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), 2023, as well as under Sections 37(1) and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.

This occurrence arises as Shinde Sena leaders criticize Kunal Kamra’s latest standup special, claiming that he has “ridiculed” Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske, addressing the issue, remarked that Kunal Kamra is a paid comedian making remarks about his party’s leader for financial gain. Mhaske said he feels pity for Sanjay Raut and the Shiv Sena (UBT) group since he had no other party members to discuss Eknath Shinde.

“Kunal Kamra is a hired comedian, and he is making comments on our leader for some money. Let alone Maharashtra, Kunal Kamra cannot freely go anywhere in India; Shiv Sainiks will show him his place. We feel sorry for Sanjay Raut and Shiv Sena (UBT) that they have no party workers or leaders left to make comments on our leader, which is why they are hiring people like him (Kunal Kamra) for the job,” Naresh Mhaske said while speaking to ANI on Sunday.
