Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A murder accused, absconding from the police for over a month, was caught in MP’s Gwalior on the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday. The accused tried to jump off a hill to escape the siege laid by police, breaking his legs in the process. The accused was found lying on the ground, unable to move when police finally arrested him.

The incident took place on Madan Mahal Hill in Gwalior district. The police have taken the accused into custody and have sent him for treatment at the district hospital. Multiple cases of murder, attempted murder, robbery, and assault are filed against the accused. Further questioning and investigation are underway.

According to information, the accused, identified as Asif Mansuri, alias Shibbu Khan, a resident of Supatal Chhui Mine, is a history sheeter. On November 1, Khan, along with his associates, namely Nihal Kewat, Radhe, Ajju, and Buchchi, stabbed and killed one Dinesh Jharia. The violence took place due to an old enmity. Police were successful in nabbing Khan’s associates, but he had been on the lam. Police launched a manhunt to locate and apprehend Khan.

Informants of the department informed officers that Khan was hiding in the forests of Madan Mahal Hill, and his aides used to provide him with food and water. Acting on a tip-off, a team of officers from Garha police station left for Madan Mahal Hill. Here, the officers surrounded Khan and laid a siege to prevent him from running. Looking at the siege, Khan decided that jumping off the hill may be his only option.

Desperate Escape Ends in Injury

Deeming jumping as the only option, Khan took a plunge from the hill. The 10-foot-plus drop broke Khan’s legs, rendering him unable to even stand up. When police arrived at the spot where he jumped, they found him crying and wailing in pain. Police quickly called up an ambulance and sent him for treatment at a local hospital.

Cases in accordance with BNS have been filed against Khan. Further investigations into the matter have begun.
