One day Guru Nanakji along with his disciples reached a village where the people were very knowledgeable. Guru Nanak camped outside the village. When the people of the village got information about Guru Nanak, the next day some people of that village reached Guru Nanak. He brought a glass full of milk.

The villagers placed a glass full of milk in front of Guru Nanak. Guru Nanak put rose petals in that glass. The villagers returned with the glass. After some time the villagers came again and invited Guru Nanak to come to their village. All the disciples were surprised to see this.

When the disciples returned to the village they asked Nanakji that he did not understand anything. At first you did not go to the village and camped here outside the village. After this the villagers bring a glass of milk, you put flowers and leaves in it and then invite you.

Guru Nanak explained to the disciples that it was a sign language. Actually, this is a village of knowledgeable people. That’s why we did not enter the village directly. When the people of the village got information about us, they showed us a glass full of milk and said that this village is full of knowledge like a glass of milk. What have you come to give us now? Then I added rose leaves to show that we will not tamper with your knowledge. Whatever insights we have, we will get back to you with our knowledge. The villagers accepted this and invited him to come to the village.

teachings of guru nanak Guru Nanak further explained that the glass was filled to the brim with milk and if anything else was added to it, the milk would come out. That’s why we put flower petals in it. There was no tampering with the milk in the glass made of flower leaves. We should not be proud of our knowledge and should respect the knowledge of others, only then there is happiness and peace in life and we get respect everywhere.
