Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): Members of the Gurjar community staged a protest and began a sit-in demonstration at the Gwalior Municipal Corporation office on Thursday. The protest was in response to action taken by the municipal team against a local dairy operator, which the community alleges was unjust and illegal.

Looking at the protests, a heavy police force was called and deployed at the Municipal Corporation office to prevent any casualties. Police and administration have assured the protesters that the matter would be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action would be taken.

According to information, the Municipal Corporation’s sanitation team visited the Dullapur area on Wednesday for a routine inspection. During inspection, they came across a dairy that was owned and operated by one Dharmendra Gurjar. The municipality officers, on inspection, found that the shop did not meet the sanitation standards. A fine of Rs 3000 was imposed on Gurjar for the violations. Gurjar alleged that the sanitation was up to the standards and the fine had been imposed illegally.

This led to an altercation where Gurjar, along with his family, reportedly attacked the team with stones. Several municipal officials, including the encroachment and sanitation officers, sustained injuries in the incident. Later that night, the Municipal Corporation demolished a wall at Gurjar’s property using a JCB machine, citing encroachment. The Gurjar community, enraged by the action, gathered in large numbers outside the municipal corporation office on Thursday, accusing officials of filing false cases and unlawfully demolishing the wall.

Police force deployed at the municipality office

Looking at the large number of angry people surrounding the office, the additional SP of the area requested a large number of police forces. A large number of police officers were called and deployed at the office to prevent any further violence.

The additional SP also talked to the protestors and pacified them. He assured the protestors that the matter has been taken into cognisance and investigation into the matter has begun.
