Gerald Coetzee Injury: The fast bowler was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 2.4 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. The South African Cricket Board has given bad news regarding this. Gujarat had bought Gerald Coetzee in the auction but now he is out for a long time due to a back injury. Coetzee, 24, has been ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka and Pakistan’s all-format series which is scheduled to take place between December 10 and January 7. Coetzee was injured during the first test. He got injured while bowling on the fourth day of the match. After which it was scanned. Cricket South Africa has confirmed that a scan has revealed a strain in his right lower back muscle.
Coetzee may take four to six weeks to recover. Due to this, he may also be out of the opening match of the SA20 League starting on 9 January 2025. Joburg is part of the Super Kings team and their first match is scheduled to be against MI Cape Town on 11 January. Following Coetzee’s omission from the squad, fast bowler Kwena Mafaka has been included in South Africa’s squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka starting on December 5 at Gkeberaha.
“South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka and the upcoming all-format tour against Pakistan due to a groin injury,” Cricket South Africa said in a statement. The 24-year-old bowler felt discomfort while bowling on the fourth day of the first Test on Saturday. The scan results revealed muscle spasm in the right waist. It may take four to six weeks to heal. Uncapped DP World Lions fast bowler Kwena Mphaka has been included in the team.
