Engineer Amit Gupta, a resident of Gujarat, was detained by the Qatar police on 1 January in connection with a criminal investigation. The allegations against Amit working in Tech Mahindra have not been disclosed yet. His mother Pushpa Gupta told the media that the family has not been informed about the reasons for this arrest.

The Indian Embassy has confirmed that he is providing all possible help to Amit Gupta and is constantly in touch with his family. Amit’s family claims that he has been implicated in the case of data theft and is innocent. His mother Pushpa Gupta also went to Qatar and approached the Indian Embassy, where the ambassador consoled him.

BJP MP Hemang Joshi said that Amit Gupta was working for Tech Mahindra in Qatar for the last 10 years. His father has also tried to meet Qatar, but he could not meet despite staying for a month.

This is not the first time an Indian has been detained in Qatar. In 2022 too, eight Indian navalists were arrested and sentenced to death, although the Qatar’s court later released him on the orders of Amir. Amit Gupta’s family has now appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene so that he can get justice.
