Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): GRP at Rani Kamlapati Railway Station traced the owner of a bag that contained jewellery worth Rs 3.28 lakh and returned it to him.

The bag was left by the family of  the discom official on February 8. The bag was returned to its owner on the direction of the court on Wednesday, GRP officials said.

In-charge at Rani Kamlapati Railway Station, SI Mahendra Singh Somvanshi was patrolling the platforms when the team came across an unclaimed bag near the Hanuman Temple on February 8.

Gold chains, tops, rings etc along with some medicines were found in the bag. The GRP team tried to trace the bag’s owner but failed.

After informing the senior officials, the GRP team seized the bag as unclaimed and started investigations. After scanning the CCTV footage, the GRP team identified a family which arrived in a car and left the bag.

Through the car’s registration number, it was identified as that of Sandeep Shukla, a power department official. GRP personnel contacted Shukla who informed that he had gone to drop his wife and son to the railway station.

He assumed that his wife had taken the bag with her while she assumed he had picked it and in this confusion, the bag was left at the railway station. The owner of the bag was traced within a few days but it was handed over to its owner after court’s order, GRP officials added.
