Grow expensive mint in summer at home, know easy way

The demand for mint increases significantly during the summer season. Mint in Indian kitchens is used in many dishes like chutney, raita, salad, tea and syrup. Along with the taste, health experts also recommend its intake in summer due to the medicinal properties present in it.

However, due to its increasing demand in the market, it often sells expensive. The good thing is that you can easily grow mint in a pot in your window or balcony. No large garden is needed for this, just some easy tips and a little care can cause this work.

Easy step-by-step guide to grow mint

1. Select the pot
Peppermint is a fast growing plant, so choose a pot with at least 6 to 8 inches in diameter. Ensure that there is holes for drainage under the pot.

2. Create the correct mixture of soil
Peppermint grows well in the soil with bright and good drainage. You can buy a mixture prepared from nursery or make yourself:

  • 1 part pot
  • 1 part coconut straw
  • 1 part vermicompost

3. Cutting or seed planting

  • Take a 4–6 inch long green cutting of mint and remove the lower leaves. After keeping it in water for a few hours, apply it to the soil at a depth of about 2 inches.
  • If growing from seeds, sprinkle the seeds evenly on the soil surface and cover it with light soil. Note, seeds require lights for germination, so do not cover them completely.

4. Way to give water
Mint does not need much water, but the soil should remain moist. Every few days, touch the upper surface and check – if it looks dry, give light water.

5. Sun and temperature
Mint requires 6–8 hours of sunlight daily. Protect from very strong sunlight and keep the plant safe from cold temperatures.

6. When and how to harvest leaves
When the leaves become 2–3 inches long, cut it with a stem base. With regular harvesting, the plant will be dense and will give more leaves.

Careful things

  • Peppermint is a rapidly spreading plant, so it is better to plant it in separate pots, so that it does not affect other plants.
  • Keep adding organic manure like vermicompost every 4–6 weeks, this will improve the growth of the plant.
  • If you are applying in the bed, then make sufficient distance from other plants.
  • Mercury entry into Uttarabhadrapada Nakshatra: Taurus, Leo and Sagittarius people will get big benefit
