Suspected Grenade Attack On Temple By Two Bike-Borne Miscreants In Punjab’s Amritsar (Screengrab) | X/PTI/ANI
Amritsar: Unidentified assailants reportedly hurled an explosive object, suspected to a grenade, at a Hindu temple in Punjab’s Amritsar on Saturday. The incident took place in the Khandawala area of the city. The blast was so powerful that is also affected the nearby buildings, breaking their windows
Two attackers arrived on a motorcycle and threw the explosive object inside the temple. The bike in which assailants came had a flag. A loud noise was heard by the locals after the object exploded. Panic gripped the area after the incident.
Video Of The Incident:
The explosion occurred at around 12:30 am on Saturday. After receiving the information, senior police officials reached the spot. There are no reports of any casualties or injuries due to the explosion. The extend of collateral damage is yet to be ascertained.
Amritsar Commissioner Hinted At ISI’s Involvement:
Amritsar Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar hinted at the involvement of Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI in the attack. “We got information at 2 a.m. We reached the spot right away. The forensic team was called… We checked the CCTV and spoke to the nearby people. The thing is that Pakistan’s ISI lures our youth into creating disturbances in Punjab. We will trace this case within days and take appropriate action. I warn the youth not to ruin their lives… We will catch the culprits soon,” Bhullar told ANI.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann On Amritsar Temple Blast:
Mann also pointed towards Pakistan’s involvement in the attack. “The drones are coming from Pakistan. I want to assure people of Punjab that the state is safe. The police are solving the cases within no time,” the Punjab CM said.
What Locals Said:
“At around 12 am, two people came on bike, stopped outside the Thakur Dwara Mandir, conducted a recce and threw a grenade at the temple. The blast was so powerful that is also affected the nearby buildings, breaking their windows and all. The police later reached the spot. As per the evidence, this was a grenade attack,” advocate Kiranpreet Singh told PTI.
A detailed investigation has been launched.
