Commonwealth Games champions PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen registered impressive victories to enter the semi-finals of the Canada Open Super 500 badminton tournament. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu comfortably beat Feng Jie 21-13, 21-7 in the women’s singles quarterfinals last night. This is Sindhu’s first win against Feng Jie in four matches. Sen beat German qualifier Julian Caragi 21-8, 17-21, 21-10 in the men’s singles quarter-finals.

This is PV Sindhu’s record against Yamaguchi

Sindhu will now take on world number one Yamaguchi of Japan while Sen will face fourth seeded Kenta Nishimoto of Japan. PV Sindhu’s record against Japan’s top player is 14-10. The last meeting between the two took place at the Singapore Open last year in which the Japanese player emerged victorious. Sen, on the other hand, has a 1-1 record against Nishimoto.

Sindhu won in the quarterfinals

Sindhu started well against Feng Jie and took a 5-1 lead. Sindhu was leading 11-6 at the interval. Sindhu covered the court well. Feng Jie then tried to come back to make it 12-16 but Sindhu did not give her much chance and won the first game easily. Feng Jie took a 5-1 lead early in the second game but Sindhu soon took an 11-5 lead. After this, it did not take much time for him to win the match.
