Supreme Court on Tamilnadu Governor: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor N. The Supreme Court has given an important verdict in the ongoing tussle between Ravi. The Supreme Court condemned the attitude of the Governor, giving great relief to the Tamil Nadu government. The Supreme Court had termed the Governor’s move to stop 10 important bills as illegal and arbitrary.
The Supreme Court had said that the Governor does not have veto power and cannot keep the bill reserved for himself. His attitude is arbitrary and illegal. A bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan said, “When the bill was sent back for reconsideration by the Legislative Assembly, it should have been approved immediately.” There is no point in keeping this bill in the middle.
Stopping the bill without reason is a violation of the Constitution.
The Supreme Court said that under Article 200 of the Constitution, when a bill is passed by the Legislative Assembly and presented to the Governor, he has to give his approval, but it is a violation of this article to keep it with him for the recommendation of the President. If the Governor does not find it appropriate, then he can send the bill back to the House for reconsideration. If the House approves it again, the Governor must immediately approve it. According to the Constitution, the governor can reserve a bill only for the recommendation of the President only if it is not in accordance with the Constitution or has different provisions or changes in state policies and is of national importance.
Important Bills of MK Stalin Government were banned
After taking over as the Governor of Tamil Nadu in 2021, RN Ravi stopped him instead of approving 10 important Bills of the DMK government. On this, the DMK government accused him of working as a BJP spokesperson and stopping the bills and appointments. The Governor defended himself and said that the strength of the Constitution prevents them from approved. The MK Stalin government approached the Supreme Court and today the Supreme Court ruled in his favor. The attitude of the governor was described as dictatorial.
