Governor CP Radhakrishnan and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday paid floral tributes to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Chaityabhoomi in Dadar on the occasion of his 134th birth anniversary.

Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, legislative council chairperson Ram Shinde, state cabinet ministers Ashish Shelar and Sanjay Shirsat and other leaders also paid homage.

The dignitaries also visited an exhibition of rare pictures of Ambedkar’s life and times organised  by the BMC.

Speaking on the occasion, Radhakrishnan called upon people to strive towards realizing Dr Ambedkar’s dream of social transformation and a society based on social and economic equality.

He expressed hope  that the Ambedkar memorial being built at Indu Mill nearby would become an inspiration for future generations.

Fadnavis said the Constitution framed by Ambedkar has been crucial in maintaining the unity and integrity of India.

It has given every citizen an equal right to live, have equal opportunity and the confidence to achieve their dreams, he  said.

He said embracing equality and justice and remaining true to constitutional values are the best ways to honour Ambedkar.

Earlier, Fadnavis in a post on X said, “Salutations to an eminent economist, global icon of social justice and father of the Indian Constitution, Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary.” NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule, who paid tributes at Chaityabhoomi earlier in the day, told reporters that Ambedkar laid the foundation stone of how a country’s administration should be run.
