Bhopal Master Plan: Government Team Studies Best Practices Of Delhi & Gujarat | Representative photo
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): To have more effective Bhopal Master Plan, a team of government officers visited Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Gujarat. The team members studied best practices at both places and there is likelihood that some of the best practices may find place in the master plan. Sources said that it was on the directive of Chief Secretary Anurag Jain that a team was sent to DDA and Gujarat.
One of the members of the team, on condition of anonymity, said that the team had a long discussion with the officers of DDA and the Gujarat government. The concept of Delhi Development Authority’s wooded area and Gujarat’s Town Planning Scheme (TPS) has been adjudged good for incorporation into the proposed Bhopal Master Plan.
The team has made recommendations to the Chief Secretary over its findings. As far as Gujarat TPS plan is concerned, in big cities of Gujarat, land is acquired by the government for development process. Later 60 per cent land is returned to farmers and government keeps the rest 40%. In Madhya Pradesh, fifty per cent land is kept by the government after development and rest 50% is returned to farmers under TPS.
‘We found that in Gujarat, people themselves used to come forward with the request that the government shall acquire their land under development plan. Gujarat government does the development of land in stipulated time limit and hence enjoys public faith,’ an officer who was part of the study team said. He added that there is plan to increase the buffer area of lakes and turn them into wooded area (having lot of trees akin to forest).
Urban Regeneration proposal
Madhya Pradesh government is also interested to consider the concept of Urban Regeneration proposal wherein densely populated areas of old city are developed in such a fashion that local dwellers find accommodation in high-rise buildings and remaining land of their area is developed by the developer for commercial activities.
BMP to have two Ring Roads
When the draft of Bhopal Master Plan was being prepared months ago, the government had done discussion with reputed planners of various states such as Maharashtra, Delhi and Tamil Nadu. The proposed Bhopal Master Plan (BMP) is also going to have two Ring Roads to reduce the traffic pressure.
