The decks have been cleared for increasing the wages of contract, daily wage, and contractual employees working in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and Navi Mumbai Transport Services.

The government announced a draft notification (No. KIWEA-1224/Pr. No. 167/Kam-7) on March 6, 2025, regarding the wage increase. This development follows a high-level meeting held on February 17, 2025, at the state secretariat with the newly appointed Labor Minister Akash Fundkar.

Reacting to the decision, Dr. Sanjeev Naik stated: “Due to the tireless efforts of Shramik Sena, contract workers have finally received justice. The government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, is proactive in making labor-friendly decisions. Within just 15-20 days of our meeting with the Labor Minister, the government took a decision on the wage hike, which will improve the living standards of contract workers. We extend our gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, Labor Minister Akash Fundkar, and the government.”

This decision will benefit 8,000 sanitation workers, 1,400 transport employees, and 1,000 workers from various departments within the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The affected workers include clerks, teachers, nurses, engineers, doctors, conductors, drivers, health department employees, garden department employees, engineering department staff, and other contract-based employees.

The Maharashtra government has also announced an increase in the minimum wages for contract, daily wage, and contractual workers. The revised salary structure is as follows:

Skilled workers will receive ₹30,520 per month in Category A & B local self-government bodies, ₹26,160 per month in Category C & D local self-government bodies, and ₹23,980 per month in other local self-government bodies outside Categories A & B.

Semi-skilled workers will receive ₹28,340 per month in Category A & B, ₹23,980 per month in Category C & D, and ₹21,800 per month in other areas.

Unskilled workers will receive ₹25,070 per month in Category A & B, ₹21,800 per month in Category C & D, and ₹18,530 per month in other areas.

This wage structure includes compensation for weekly offs. For daily wage workers, salaries will be calculated by dividing the monthly wage by 26. For part-time workers, hourly wages will be determined by dividing the daily wage by 8 and increasing it by 15%.

Zone 1 includes all municipal corporations and Category ‘A’ & ‘B’ municipalities in Maharashtra. Zone 2 consists of Category ‘C’ & ‘D’ municipalities. Zone 3 comprises all remaining areas of Maharashtra.
