The government will soon take over the property of the Nawab Pataudi family as the High Court has decided to lift the stay on this heritage historical property since 2015.
Nawab family scions Saif Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore are laying claim to the property after Abida, the eldest daughter of the Nawab of Bhopal, settled in Pakistan. The government will now survey the property and take it into its possession as part of legal proceedings. In 2015, the government declared this property as government property.
Property worth Rs 15000 crore in Bhopal
Nawab of Bhopal Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and his family lived in Bhopal for Rs. Assets worth Rs 15000 crore. Many properties have been sold. This wealth extends from Kohfiza to Chiklod. More than 1.5 lakh people live on about 100 acres of land owned by the Pataudi family. Madhya Pradesh High Court had put a stay on this property in 2015. The matter is related to the Enemy Property Act. Justice Vivek Aggarwal has given the Nawab family time to present their side within 30 days. Despite the expiry of the deadline the family could not file the claim.
Nawab family will knock on the door of division bench
Saif Ali Khan and his family can approach the Division Bench challenging the High Court order. Bhopal Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh told that in the last 72 years, the names of the people have been included in the enemy properties. This will be investigated. Survey of the property will be done.
What is the Enemy Property Act?
India enacted the Enemy Property Act in 1968 after its liberation from British rule. Under this Act, the Central Government takes over the properties located in India of people who fled Pakistan after the India-Pakistan partition and during the wars of 1962, 1965 and 1971. Nawab family’s daughter Abida also wants the government to take possession of her property in Bhopal after going to Pakistan.
Pataudi family wealth
Saif Ali Khan Pataudi’s family properties include Pataudi Palace in Gurugram, Haryana, Noor-us-Sabah Palace in Bhopal, Flag Staff House, Dar-us-Salaam, Habibi Ka Bungalow, Cottage 9, Four Quarters, Motors Garage, Workshop, New Colony included. Quarters, Bungalow No. 1 New Colony, Dairy Firm Quarters, Fars Khana, Van Bhandar, Police Guard Room, Government Dispensary, Government School, Kohefiza Estate and the Ahmedabad Palace.
Mention of 24 properties
In 2013, the district administration submitted a report on enemy property. In which 24 properties were mentioned. In 2015 it was reduced to 16. In which it was said that only ‘Nani Ki Haveli’ in Bhopal is registered in the name of Abida Sultan. Whereas the owner of ‘Maple House’ could not be informed. A record 24 properties were found to be enemy property in the last 70 decades. But most of those properties were not registered in the name of Abida Sultan.
