Another big expressway is going to be constructed in Uttar Pradesh. The Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway will start from Gorakhpur, the home district of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and reach Panipat in Haryana via Seema Shamli in UP. This expressway will pass through 22 districts and 37 tehsils of the state, which will provide direct connection to the western districts of UP.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has started work on the roadmap of the project. This expressway will bring revolutionary changes in the economic development of these states by connecting Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Delhi.
Gorakhpur-Shamli Expressway will be the longest expressway in UP
- This expressway will be 700 km long, which will make it the longest expressway in UP.
- Project estimated cost: ₹ 35,000 crore.
- It will pass through 22 districts of UP including Gorakhpur, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Bahraich, Lucknow, Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Hardoi, Moradabad, Rampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Sambhal, Bareilly, Bijnor, Meerut, Amroha, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Shamli.
- After this, it will be expanded to Panipat, connecting with Haryana, Punjab and Delhi.
Travel time will be half
- After the construction of this expressway, the journey from Gorakhpur to Shamli will be reduced from 15 hours to just 8 hours.
- Traffic congestion between eastern and western UP will be low, which will boost trade and tourism.
- This expressway will provide the fastest and direct route to reach Haryana, Punjab and Delhi.
Special runway for landing of fighter aircraft
- This expressway is being designed in such a way that fighter aircraft can also land on it.
- Like the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and Purvanchal Expressway, special runways will be built on this expressway for Airforce.
- The Indian Air Force will be able to use this expressway under emergency situations.

Uttar Pradesh has become the state with the most expressway in India.
- Construction of Ganga Expressway (Meerut to Prayagraj) continues on a war footing.
