Former Bangladesh cricketer Tamim Iqbal has thankfully regained consciousness after undergoing an emergency angioplasty surgery post suffering a heart attack during the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) game on Monday in Savar. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the former skipper also spoke to a family member after the surgery and is in stable condition.
However, Tamim must remain in the coronary care unit (CCU) for 48 hours as the doctors will continue to monitor his health and recovery after the surgery. The retired left-handed batter was leading the Mohammedan Sporting Club against Shinepukur Cricket Club but fielded only for one over of that first innings. He visited the KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing Home (formerly Fazilatunnesa Hospital) nearby to get himself checked after feeling discomfort in his chest.
BCB’s chief physician Dr. Debasis Chowdhury issued a statement about Tamim’s health and stated, as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo:
“Tamim Iqbal has regained consciousness. His vital signs are improving so we also hope that his overall health will also get better in the next 24 hours. The hospital has briefed you that they have put a ring in one of his arteries. The other arteries are healthy.”
