New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips took a one-handed blinder on day two of the opening Test against England at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The spin-bowling all-rounder leapt to his right and celebrated with gusto after the catch as the hosts ended a 151-run stand between Harry Brook and Ollie Pope, retaining hopes of taking a lead.
The dismissal occurred in the 53rd over of the innings as Tim Southee offered width to Pope, who took the bait and played a cut shot. However, Phillips didn’t let the ball go past him, diving full throttle to his right to pluck the ball out of thin air. It meant that Pope had to walk back for 77 as the Black Caps when it seemed like England were running away with the game.
