Punjab Kings, who had invested a hefty amount of ₹4.20 crore on Glenn Maxwell, saw the swashbuckling all-rounder go for a first-ball duck in the IPL 2025 game against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With R Sai Kishore trapping him lbw, Maxwell considered a review but walked off after speaking to Shreyas Iyer.
The dismissal occurred in the 11th over of the innings as R Sai Kishore had dismissed Azmatullah Omarzai, who played a dangerous cameo of 16 departed after holing out to deep mid-wicket. With the Victorian going for a reverse sweep, the veteran missed the ball completely and the umpire had no hesitation in raising the finger. Notably, the replays showed that he was not out as the ball missed the stumps.
In the process, the Aussie all-rounder has also registered an unwanted record of registering the most ducks in IPL history with 19. Earlier, Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan had removed Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, respectively.
Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill had won the toss earlier in the night
Meanwhile, Titans skipper had earlier Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad against the Punjab Kings in what is the first match of the season for both teams. Citing the dew factor, Gill opted to bowl first as Shreyas Iyer also wanted to do the same.
