Students in Maharashtra have recorded exceptional performances in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Indian School Certificate (ISC) examinations for the year 2025, with overall pass percentages of 99.90% and 99.81% respectively, according to data released by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi.
A total of 29,282 students appeared for the ICSE (Class X) exams in the state, including 15,721 boys and 13,561 girls. Girls marginally outperformed boys, achieving a pass percentage of 99.92% compared to 99.89% for boys. Similarly, in the ISC (Class XII) exams, of the 3,723 candidates who appeared — 1,718 boys and 2,005 girls — girls posted a higher success rate of 99.95%, while boys achieved 99.65%.
At the national level, 252,557 students sat for the ICSE exams, with a pass percentage of 99.09%, and 99,551 appeared for the ISC exams, achieving a pass percentage of 99.02%. Girls consistently outperformed boys across both levels, with ICSE girls recording a pass rate of 99.37% against 98.84% for boys, and ISC girls scoring 99.45% as compared to 98.64% for boys.
Maharashtra’s performance stands out among all states, with its ICSE and ISC students exceeding national averages. Only 28 ICSE candidates in the state were unsuccessful, while just seven students did not clear the ISC exams.
In terms of representation from socially disadvantaged groups, Maharashtra reported that 1,404 Scheduled Caste candidates took the ICSE exam with a pass rate of 99.50%, and 246 Scheduled Tribe students passed with 99.59%. Among Other Backward Classes, 3,519 students sat the ICSE exams, with an impressive pass rate of 99.89%. For ISC, all 40 Scheduled Tribe candidates passed (100%), while Scheduled Caste and Other Backward Classes students posted success rates of 98.92% and 99.60% respectively.
Across India, the Western region, which includes Maharashtra, posted the highest ICSE pass percentage (99.83%), while the Southern region led in ISC with 99.76%.
