India, traditionally known for its diverse vegetarian cuisine, is now leading the global charge in embracing plant-based protein. With growing awareness about health, sustainability, and ethical eating, more people are making the switch to vegan diets, fueled by innovative plant protein alternatives.

Brands are introducing exciting vegan options like plant-based meat, dairy-free milk, and protein-packed snacks that replicate the taste and texture of traditional animal-based products. These alternatives not only satisfy cravings but also come with numerous health benefits. Plant proteins are rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, while being low in saturated fats and cholesterol. This makes them a healthier choice for reducing the risk of chronic diseases like heart conditions, diabetes, and obesity.

According to Good Food Institute India’s recently released report, The Indian Food Service Industry is estimated to be the third biggest in the world by 2028. Trailing only the US and China. With this will come the increased demand for elevates lifestyle and convenience. These insights highlight the significant potential for plant-based meat brands to experiment with different cuisines and expand their presence in the food service establishments.

“The food service industry has always played a key role in introducing newer cuisines and ingredients to Indian households and holds immense potential to drive the adoption of plant-based proteins among consumers as well,” said Sneha Singh, Managing Director of GFI India.

“India’s rich culinary heritage and dynamic dining out market make it uniquely positioned to lead a transformative shift in the way we eat and pave the way for a more sustainable and inclusive food ecosystem,” she added.

To bring the growing demand for plant-based meat to light, The GFI hosted an evening with chefs, food and lifestyle pioneers, bloggers, and marketeers who are eager to be a part of the changing plant-based food in India. Earth Café at the BKC, Mumbai was the perfect venue to host an event that felt more like a celebration of like-minded people coming together and not only thinking but executing their plans for a healthier future. Brands such as Tibbs, Blue Tribe, Prot, GoodDot were a part of this evening where they showcased how they experimented with plant-based meat and expanded their menu for the ones looking for healthier protein alternative.

The evening was a creative amalgamation of GFI and brands who have mastered the art of adding protein to their food through plant-based options. In addition to this, the guests were served a full coarse meal prepared by Chef Varun Sharma who is popular for cooking up the best vegan alternatives and experimenting with plant-based meat. The food items were not only delicious but also resembled the texture and flavour of real meat for those who quit eating meat for health reasons.

Not to forget the plant-based cheese counter that was set up in a corner. The guests savoured every cheese alternative that was set on the table. It was a unique take on vegan cheese alternatives to enjoy in a festive season. Pardita Mascarenhas, founder of Break of Dawn set a delicious table of appetizers that included strawberry basil cream cheese, truffle and chives cream cheese and jalapeno cream cheese. We witnessed a glimpse of the future of plant-based delicacies here.
