India is set to strengthen its academic ties with Germany as over 80 German institutions of higher education and research visit the country this month. The visit is part of the DAAD’s 65th jubilee in India and 100th jubilee worldwide.
Indo-German partnership in science & education
According to German Ambassador to India and Bhutan, Dr. Philipp Ackermann, “In education and science, the Indo-German collaboration is more robust than ever… The biggest number of international students from any nation is represented by the almost 50,000 Indian students studying in Germany. He also highlighted the significant contributions of Indian scientists to Germany’s research landscape.
Key events & initiative
The visit includes several key events, such as the Higher Education Policy Information visit in Hyderabad and New Delhi, which brings together 20 heads of leading German universities to explore new academic collaborations. The other highlight is the launch of the German School of Technology at PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore, a new academic initiative financially supported by DAAD.
Dr. Katja Lasch, Director of DAAD Regional Office New Delhi, stressed that “The participation of more than 80 German institutions of higher learning in India this March reflects an increasing interest in intensifying our academic ties. These events reflect our determination to continue to develop the academic and research exchange including cooperation in higher education, research, and innovation between India and Germany”.
Indo-German Forum: Research, Innovation, and Transfer will also be held, in which 250 delegates from Indian and German higher education and research institutions will gather to encourage academic and research collaboration. DAAD will also join APAIE 2025, with a strong delegation from more than 70 universities making a visit to numerous universities in and around Delhi.
