Dharam Veer Meena, General Manager, Central Railway, inspected the recently completed Non-Interlocking (NI) works and extension of platforms 12 and 13 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The extension of these platforms marks a significant upgrade to accommodate 24-coach trains, enhancing passenger convenience and operational efficiency. The platforms have been extended by 305 meters, making the total length 690 meters.
Central Railway executed special blocks for Pre & Post Non-Interlocking (NI) works from the midnight of February 28/March 1, 2025, to March 2/3, 2025. The commissioning involved modifications to the existing Siemens-made Electronic Interlocking system and was accomplished in a record time of just 10 hours — from 23:15 hrs on March 1, 2025, to 09:15 hrs on March 2, 2025.
Key Highlights of the Extension and Upgradation Work:
Infrastructure Enhancement: Yard remodelling carried out and a washing apron was added for improved maintenance and extended life.
Track and Signal Modifications:
Turnouts: 2 dismantled, 1 newly inserted.
Signals: 3 signals shifted, 2 shunting signals converted to main signals, and 1 new shunting signal added.
Operational Efficiency: Routes increased from 278 to 285.
Safety Measures: Dual detection track circuits introduced for enhanced safety.
