Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Operator of Ganga Gaushala in Dutt Nagar, Jiva Rama on Thursday broke down before media while recounting the action taken by Indore Municipal Corporation a day before. Accusing authorities of unjust treatment, he said, “Gau Matas and I were attacked during IMC action. I am deeply hurt by the incident that took place on Wednesday. Now, I don’t want to live in Indore.”
Three employees of IMC were hurt and some vehicles were vandalised when Bajrang Dal activists and IMC employees, who went to remove to cow enclosure at Ganga Gaushala, clashed. Jiva Ram, who has been running the cow shelter for 20 years, alleged that the removal process was abrupt and harsh.
“By serving Gau Mata, have I committed a crime? Is it wrong to do Gau Seva?,” he said. According to Jiva Ram, the authorities took away 45 cows from the Gaushala during the operation, but only 34 were later accounted for. He also stated that some cows were injured during the process.
“The way the cows were taken away was wrong. Some were hurt. We will now take the remaining cows to Dhar,” he added. The land where the Gaushala was built reportedly belongs to Indore Development Authority (IDA). Jiva Ram acknowledged that the cow shelter was on government land but questioned why action was selectively taken against them.
“Many colonies and cow shelters are being run on IDA land. Why were we singled out? We were given just two days to vacate. Where could we have moved these cows in such a short time?” he questioned.
