The controversy over garbage management in Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka, is deepening. State Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivkumar on Friday accused the MLAs of blackmailing the government. He claimed that the MLAs are demanding Rs 800 crore from the development fund in the name of dealing with the garbage crisis. However, the deputy CM did not name anyone.
“Garbage mafia active in Bengaluru” – D.K. Shivakumar
D.K., while answering the questions of Councilor M. Nagaraju in the Legislative Council. Shivkumar made a big disclosure to the irregularities in waste management.
- He said that a large mafia of waste management is working.
- The garbage removal contractors have tied up with each other and up to 85% bids are being bid at the actual rate of contract.
- The government is taking strict action on this and has taken the matter to the court.
- “There is a delay in making the waste settlement policy effective due to legal complications.”

Senior Congress leader D.K. Shivkumar took a dig at all the MLAs of Bangalore and said that they are blackmailing the government on this issue.
- “I don’t want to take anyone’s name, but this is the truth. These are the MLAs of all parties. ”

- “I can’t take anyone’s name here, but this is the truth.”
Why waste disposal scheme stuck?
The deputy CM said that it was planned to divide the waste disposal of Bengaluru into four stages and take the garbage 50 km away.
- However, the plan has come to a standstill due to legal obstacles.
- He said that the vehicles lifting the garbage of the city are also stranded in the Mahadevpura area and have not been able to move from there for three days.
