Mumbai: A 63-year-old gangster, Prakash Ratilal Hingu, linked to the Dawood Ibrahim-Chhota Shakeel gang, has been arrested after 29 years on the run in connection with a 1996 case. The arrest was made by the Mumbai Crime Branch from Hubli, Karnataka, an official said.

1996 Arthur Road Jail Riot Case : In 1996, a violent clash erupted inside Arthur Road Jail, Mumbai, between members of Dawood Ibrahim’s gang and Chhota Rajan’s gang, who were in judicial custody at the time. The two rival gangs attempted to eliminate each other, leading to the registration of a case at N.M. Joshi Marg Police Station under IPC Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 324, and 307.

During the trial, Prakash Hingu repeatedly failed to appear before the court, leading the honorable court to declare him an absconder.

Acting on a tip-off, Senior Police Inspector Somnath Deshmane and his team traced Hingu to Hubli, Karnataka. After conducting a search operation, the police successfully apprehended him today and formally re-arrested him in the 1996 case.
