Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The city police busted an inter-state gang involved in renting cars and selling them to unsuspecting buyers in other states, an official said on Monday. The Gandhi Nagar police arrested five members of the gang, including the mastermind, and recovered 11 cars worth more than Rs 1.5 crore.
DCP (zone-1) Vinod Kumar Meena informed media persons that the police received eight complaints at Gandhinagar police station that someone fled with cars after taking them on rent. After analyzing such complaints, the police came to know that the rental agreements of all the complainants were made with the same person, Sachin Singh Sisodhiya of Mhow.
During investigation, it surfaced that Sachin was the mastermind behind the gang which rented cars and later sold them in Maharashtra, Gujarat and other states. Initially, Sachin paid the rental on time to gain the owner’s trust and got the original documents of the vehicle.
He preferred to sell vehicles to those who bought them without asking for documents. The police kept an eye on the accused and arrested him from Surat.
Later, he allegedly disclosed the names of his accomplices Arkan Sheikh, Vishal Mirkute, Avinash Yadav and Vikash Panwar, all of Kalyan in Maharashtra. The police recovered 11 cars from their possession. The police also issued an advisory to warn people against falling prey to such crimes.
Cops have found that fraudsters lure people, offering higher than usual rent for their vehicles, due to which people hand over their vehicles along with the documents through an agreement. After some time the fraudsters either sell the vehicle to someone else or mortgage it.
