Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Working out cases of five thefts in the area on first day of the New Year, Ayodhya Nagar police on Wednesday busted a five- member gang of burglars. Police seized weapons and stolen cash and valuables from their possession.
Different teams of the gang used to work in coordination for committing thefts. The accused committed thefts to live lavish lives and repay loans etc, police officials said. DCP Zone 2 Sanjay Agarwal said police team under the charge of Ayodhya Nagar police station TI Mahesh Lilhare was patrolling the area on Tuesday late night when they spotted five suspects at Arehdi phase-5.
The suspects were taken to police station for interrogation where they confessed to have committed thefts in the area. They informed police that they were roaming in the area to commit thefts while taking advantage of the chilly winter night.
The gang members confessed to have five thefts at MIG sector-H, Shriram Colony Premises, Basantkunj Colony, HIG sector-H and sector-L during the past some months.
On their confession, police seized gold and silver ornaments and cash worth Rs 16 lakh along with two bikes used in the crime and a pistol, two knives, rod, tommy etc from their possession. The kingpin of the gang Shivnarayan Prajapati aka Chaman (32) of Vidisha has 13 criminal cases at Ayodhya Nagar, Piplani and other police stations. Prajapati used to earlier run a fast food kiosk but turned towards committing theft to make quick money.
Other gang members include Jitendra Rajput (33) of Sagar with two criminal cases on him, Rajat Kunde (29) of Indrapuri area with two cases on him, Jaswant Sen (25) of Sukhi Seonia having five criminal cases registered against him and Niraj Malviya (29) of Kolar who has three criminal cases against him. Other accused worked as drivers or used to do odd jobs for living. Niraj Malviya and Jitendra Rajput have completed their intermediate while others were Class 5 and 8 dropouts.
