‘No Staff, No Fire-Brigade’: Frustrated Mumbai Resident Urges BMC To Take Action Against Non-Functioning Mini Fire Station In Chandivali | X (@ChandivaliCCWA)

Mumbai: Irritated by the lack of functionality and repetitive complaints to the authorities with no action, the official X page of the Chandivali Citizens Welfare Association (CCWA) depicts the mini fire station, which is merely a shaft without any staff or fire brigade present.

A dissatisfied resident arrived at what is meant to be a mini fire station in the Chandivali area of Powai, but it appears to be an empty, deserted shaft. In the video, the small fire station is shown devoid of any staff or firefighting vehicle; instead, there’s a empty space with chargers plugged into the switchboard, a cloth bag hanging on the wall, one shutter up while other is shut, a man outside using his phone while seated on a parked scooter, and nothing that resembles an active fire station.

The caption of the post made by Chandivali Citizens Welfare Association (CCWA)’s official X page reads: “Today a fire erupted at the Sai Sapphire building in Powai today around 9.30 am.  A few meters away is a minifire station, which has neither staff nor a fire engine. This issue has been raised several times by us and amplified by the media. Despite that, this important resource is wasted by @mybmc, and no efforts have been taken by them to make this fire station fully functional. This demand has been raised in the Chandivali Cha Manifesto during the MP and MLA elections. This is the condition of Mumbai after a BMC budget of Rs. 74000 crores.”

In it’s recent post, the official page of Chandivali Citizens Welfare Association (CCWA) reported about the functionality of the mini fire station and no actions were taken against it even after repetitive complaints by the residents.

This video comes after a massive fire in Powai’s Sai Sapphire building that was reportedly on fire in the early hours of the day after a duct on the 17th floor of the 24-storey building. The mini fire station was closest to the where the incident but it’s ineffectiveness caused a delay in action.
