Mumbai’s Street Vendor Issue
Illegal street vendors are violating regulations at Vikhroli West Station Road, using gas cylinders and bribing BMC and police. Licensed vendors also face restrictions, as the Street Vendors Act, 2014 mandates 1.5m clearance for pedestrians.
Enforcement is lacking, forcing people to walk on the road and endangering their safety. The footpath outside Matunga Gymkhana, near Ruia and Podar colleges, is overtaken by illegal hawkers and food carts. Many residents have been raising voices against this issues with the civic body but no permanent action has been taken over them.
BMC Responds
The civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has responded to the post stating that the concerned authorities have been informed about the issue. The response in comment section stated, “We have conveyed your complaint to the concerned department.”
Netizens React
The netizens expressed the issue in the comment section sharing their frustration over the street hawkers causing uncleanliness, obstacle and BMC and Mumbai Police’s lack of action in resolving the street vendor issue in Mumbai.
