Mumbai, January 21: Bigg Boss OTT 3 fame and rapper Naezy recently shared details about his life in an interview with “Mashable India”. He talked about his school days, family background, relationship with fellow rapper Divine and his journey in the music industry. Here’s a glimpse into his fascinating life story:
Relationship With Divine
Naezy addressed rumours of a rift with Divine, as the two haven’t been seen together for a long time. He explained, “Divine has achieved success, and I haven’t reached that level yet. His circle has changed, so we don’t meet often. But we are still brothers and have no problems with each other. We’ve been enjoying life together for years.”
Talha Anjum Controversy
Naezy also spoke about his recent controversy with Pakistani rapper Talha Anjum. He shared that he didn’t recognise Anjum during an interview, which sparked a furious reaction from the rapper. “He thinks everyone knows him and that he is like AR Rahman,” Naezy said. He added that if Talha Anjum had been in India, he would have faced backlash from Naezy’s fans and friends. “He’s safe because he’s in Pakistan. Now, he cannot visit India. In Mumbai, he would have been beaten like a dog,” Naezy remarked. According to him, Talha Anjum even released a diss track and used abusive language against him.
School Days
Naezy attended St. Joseph’s School in Kurla and was known for being mischievous. He shared an incident where the principal thrashed him for breaking a toilet door. He often bunked school, saying he went swimming in the river and pretended to have attended school. Studying in an English-medium school helped him understand hip-hop music. He also mentioned having a crush in school but never confessed his feelings, as she is now married.
Becoming a Thief
After finishing school, Naezy admitted to falling into bad company and becoming a thief. He stole items like ice cream packs, balls, music CDs, and cassettes from stores like Planet M. He even stole bicycles but was never caught. However, he learned his lesson as he grew up, especially after being thrashed by the police when caught stealing.
Journey as Naezy
Naezy’s musical journey began after he completed classes 11 and 12. He downloaded songs by Black Eyed Peas and Taylor Swift from cyber cafes, performed techno, and learned lyrics to impress girls. His career took off after someone stole his lyrics, which led to a significant fight, fueling his passion for music.
Life Out of Limelight
Naezy shared that he often stays away from social media and the public eye. He explained, “People crave my posts and songs. I write songs during struggles and release them during good times. This is my style.”
Family Background
Naezy comes from a family associated with a mosque in Kurla, where his grandfather served. He often expressed his emotions and experiences through his songs.
Hip-Hop Journey
Naezy was among the first to release a hip-hop song, followed by Emiway and Divine. Divine noticed his song Aafat and reached out to him. They would chill in Divine’s area and ride around on a Honda Dio.
Gully Boy Fictional
Naezy clarified that the movie Gully Boy is fictional and doesn’t reflect his real life. He said, “My father hasn’t married twice as shown in the film. The movie annoyed me because it’s far from reality.”
Mercedes and Life Changes
At the peak of his career, Naezy enjoyed success, travelling in a Mercedes, living in Bandra and flying business class for international shows in the UK, Australia and Japan. However, he admitted that success went to his head, and he distanced himself from his family. Later, he embraced an Islamic lifestyle, stayed in a mosque and prayed five times a day.
Struggles in Music
Naezy shared that his music became irrelevant when he stayed away from the industry for too long. To reconnect, he started attending clubs and concerts and conducted research by playing his songs for random people.
Rift With Khalsa College
Naezy studied at Khalsa College in Matunga but never returned after leaving. He has a strained relationship with the college administration, as they cancelled an event he was invited to at the last moment.
Substance Abuse Rumours
Naezy addressed rumours about substance abuse, saying, “People think I smoke because my eyes look stoned. But I don’t need substances — I’m high on life.”
Naezy’s journey reflects a rollercoaster of struggles, success and self-discovery, showcasing his resilience and passion for music.
