Mumbai: Unit 10 of Mumbai Crime Branch has busted a fake call center running in the name of Amazon in Sahara area of Andheri. Canadian citizens were being cheated from this call center. Five people were arrested in connection with this scam. However, its mastermind Shailesh Dobaria and others are currently absconding.
Ahar Qadri, Akash Kale, Mohammad Sheikh, Gopal Singh Dipal and Mustafa Chitlwala were arrested in this case. According to officials, the search for the main accused in the case and his associates is going on, who are currently absconding.
During interrogation during the raid, it was found that the accused were sending messages already recorded to Canadian citizens, calling themselves an employee of Amazon.
In this message, the victims were told that an iPhone had been purchased from their Amazon account. If you have not booked this order, you have been instructed to suppress T to cancel this order. Users who followed this instruction were sent to this fake call center. There, the accused described themselves as representatives of Amazon and told the victims that their call would be transferred to the Canadian Crown Attorney Court House in view of the seriousness of the case. After this, the call was shifted to another person who pretended to be a legal officer in the same fake call center. The person persuaded the victims to buy a $ 100 gift card from a reputed company and share a 16 -digit code.
The card details were then given to Shailesh Dobaria, the alleged mastermind of the call center. Who misused this information and illegally transferred these money to their bank accounts.
During the raid, the Crime Branch also seized various electrical equipment and documents related to fraud. In addition, it was also investigated how many Canadian citizens were cheated earlier. This action is part of a comprehensive international fraud network, so further investigation in this case is going on and more arrests are expected.
