Indian star wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson has fractured the index finger in the index finger due to Jofra Archer’s fast ball during the fifth T20 match against England. Due to this injury, he will stay away from cricket for at least a month and will not be able to play in the upcoming Ranji Trophy quarter -finals.
Severity of injury and recovery plan
Sanju Samson has returned to Thiruvananthapuram and will start training only after completing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
His right index finger has fractured, and it will take him at least 5-6 weeks to start exercising on the net.
According to a BCCI source, there is no possibility of playing in the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals (8–12 February).
IPL expected to return in 2025
His return to competitive cricket due to Samson’s injury is likely to be for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025.
He will not be able to play any match until NCA gets fitness approval.
Samson’s poor performance against England
His performance in the five -match T20 series against England was disappointing.
He scored just 51 runs in 5 matches and was seen struggling against England fast bowlers (Archer, Mark Wood, Saqib Mahmood).
Archer’s ball, which came at a speed of 150 km/h, had a profound impact on his finger.
Champions Trophy and India’s upcoming series
The Champions Trophy could not make it to the 2025 team as they did not play a single match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
India’s next limited overs are not matching till the end of July, so Samson will have to wait till the Bangladesh Series in August for the next opportunity.
