Foxconn Factory in Bengaluru

New Delhi: Karnataka Commerce and Industry Minister MB Patil said on Saturday that Taiwan’s electronics manufacturing company Foxconn is almost ready to start the factory in Bengaluru and expected the commercial supply of the iPhone in early June itself.

The country is now receiving “Make in India” globally, as reports suggest that Tech giant Apple may transfer the entire assembly of iPhones to the US to India by next year. According to Patil, “Devanhalli ITIR is almost ready to launch the unit of Foxconn in ITIR, and the commercial iPhone shipment is expected to begin in early June”.

In a post on X social media platform, he said that it is not just a milestone in the manufacturing sector. “It is a symbol of a strategic change. As the geopolitical and tariff pressure increases, India is rapidly becoming Apple’s favorite production center. This development strengthens the status of Karnataka in global manufacturing and opens the door for more foreign investment without compromising the interests of stakeholders,” said the Minister of State.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that most of the iPhone sold in the US will be built in India in the June quarter. Patil said, “It is a matter of pride for me as a Kannada person. Karnataka is making global headlines from Mysore to Cupertino.”

According to Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav, India is now receiving “Make in India” globally. Apple’s contract makers in India are already increasing their operations. Foxconn’s new plant in Bengaluru can produce up to 20 million iPhone with full capacity. Apple’s manufacturing power in India is already impressive.

Last year, $ 22 billion iPhone was assembled in India, with Tamil Nadu -based Foxconn contributed to about 50 percent of Apple’s exports. Exports have increased by more than 40 percent from the Foxconn factory compared to the same period last year.

Today, India’s contribution to Apple’s total iPhone production worldwide is about 20 percent, showing how important the country has become for the global plans of the brand. The Indian market is also seeing a strong growth for Apple. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, more than three million iPhones were sent from India – a new record.
