Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award has been announced. Sports Ministry gave this information. The Sports Ministry said four athletes, including Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker and world chess champion D Gukesh, will receive the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Apart from Manu Bhaker and world champion D Gukesh, Harmanpreet Singh and para-athlete Praveen Kumar will also be honored with the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.

Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is the highest sports honor in the country. Apart from this, the Sports Ministry has selected 32 players for the Arjuna Award, of which 17 are para-athletes. The surprising thing is that among the 32 players selected for the Arjun Award, there is not a single cricketer.

22-year-old Manu Bhaker became India’s first athlete to win two medals in the same edition of the Olympics by winning bronze in the 10m air pistol individual and 10m air pistol combined team events. Hockey captain Harmanpreet Singh played an important role in helping the Indian hockey team win its second consecutive bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics. On the other hand, 18-year-old Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh recently became the youngest world champion and played a key role in winning the historic gold medal for the Indian team at the Chess Olympiad last year. The fourth Khel Ratna awardee is para high-jumper Parveen, who won a gold medal at the Paris Para Olympics.

The names of veteran athletes Sucha Singh and Murlikant Rajaram Petkar have been selected for the Lifetime Achievement Award. All the athletes will receive the Major Dhyan Chand Ratna Award from the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan on January 17. Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award is given to a sportsperson for his outstanding performance in the field of sports during the last four years. At the same time, Arjuna Award is given for showing good performance, sportsmanship and sense of discipline in sports in the last four years.
