Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently in jail, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his work for human rights and democracy. This information has been given by Pakistan World Alliance (PWA) and Norway’s political party Sentrum.
PWA and Sentrum announced
Members of the Pakistan World Alliance (PWA) have announced the nomination of Imran Khan, established in December last year. These members are also members of Norway’s political party Sentrum. The party said on Sunday, “We are happy to declare the party’s right to announce the Nobel Peace Prize for his work for human rights and democracy in Pakistan along with a person with the right to enroll.” Earlier in 2019, Imran Khan was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to promote peace in South Asia.
The winner will be announced after eight months
According to a report by the Express Tribune, the Norwegian Nobel Committee receives hundreds of enrollment every year, after which the winner is selected after a long process of eight months. Imran Khan, who is also the founder of Pakistan’s main opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been in jail since August 2023.
14 years in jail in corruption case
In January this year, Imran Khan was sentenced to 14 years in prison in a case related to misuse and corruption. This was the fourth major case in which the former Prime Minister was convicted. However, Imran Khan has denied all the allegations against him and said that all these cases are inspired by politics.
Government will go in 2022
The court canceled or suspended three prior cases related to sale of government gifts, leaking government information and illegal marriage. Significantly, Imran Khan was removed from power in April 2022 after a no -confidence motion.
