Former MLA Sandeep Naik has strongly criticized the ongoing demolition of homes built by project-affected people (PAPs) in Navi Mumbai, labeling the actions as unjust. He warned that a large-scale democratic protest would be initiated across the city if the demolitions continue.

A one-day symbolic protest was held in Sanpada, organized by local villagers and the “Sons of the Soil” community, opposing the demolition of essential homes. Naik attended the protest, expressing his support for the cause. Representatives from various political parties and local organizations also participated in the movement.

Naik highlighted that local villagers had made significant sacrifices for the development of Navi Mumbai, selling their land to CIDCO and MIDC at meager prices, thereby aiding the government’s revenue generation. However, he pointed out the irony that these very locals now face injustice concerning their livelihoods. He questioned the rationale behind demolishing homes built before 1990, especially when the government has provided protection to essential structures constructed up to 2022.

He also brought attention to the government resolution (GR) passed on September 23, 2024, aimed at regularizing such constructions by PAPs, questioning why it has not been implemented.

Naik informed that letters have been submitted to the Chief Minister, both Deputy Chief Ministers, and the Forest Minister, demanding an immediate halt to the demolition drive. He warned that if these actions are not stopped, a massive democratic agitation would arise from Digha to Belapur, assuring his full support to the movement.
